Founded in 1991 by Samoth and Ihsahn, Emperor is celebrated as one of black metal’s most influential bands. Surprisingly, Emperor originally began as a side project to the duo's main band, Thou Shalt Suffer. Unlike Emperor, Thou Shalt Suffer played a gloomy style of death metal characterized by doom-laden tempos, keyboard layers, and Ihsahn’s low growls rather than high shrieks. Despite the members' young age and short lifespan, the band produced high-quality, proficiently composed material that stands alongside early Scandinavian death metal pioneers.
This is the ultimate re-release of Thou Shalt Suffer's discography as a limited-edition 3LP triple-gatefold vinyl set (available in classic black or white marble). Remastered from the original tapes by Patrick W. Engel, the collection features the band's three original 1991 recordings alongside a 24-page booklet with rare photos and an in-depth interview with Samoth. Additionally, the release unearths previously unreleased material from the duo's earlier precursor bands, Xerasia and Embryonic, making it an essential compilation for dark metal devotees.
These are extremely limited editions and will not be repressed in this style.
